Host a Concert

KINDS OF CONCERTS:
~ Standard Concert: for church events, camps, retreats, and the like. They are informal, laid-back, and at times worshipful.
~ House Concert: Yes that’s right, Nathan will come invade your living room and play for you and your guests!
~ Coffee house concerts usually consists of a couple 50 minute sets and you never know what Nathan will play…
~ Worship: this is NOT a concert! See below.
~ Conferences: Nathan has provided everything from transition music, to music leadership, to a full concert. Conference organizers have often said that music is the glue that holds a good conference together. Also, Nathan has spoken on several subjects ranging from An Approach to Guitar, to Singing Psalms, to Approaching Worship. He has joined Homeschool, World View and Theology Conferences, as well as presenting Sunday School lessons in conjunction with a concert that evening.

A CONCERT VS. WORSHIP:
Most of Nathan’s music is best suited for concerts. However, Nathan is very aware that a worship service is quite different than a concert. He has a high view of corporate worship and is very careful to work with the pastor and/or minister of music to make sure that any musical presentation in worship is appropriate to the worship of God. Also, whether in concert or worship, Nathan usually prefers to have all ages present as he hopes to encourage a multigenerational approach to life.

CONCERT LENGTH:
~ A standard concert lasts just over an hour.
~ Most House Concerts are around an hour, but you never know….
~ Coffee house concerts are all over the map.
~ If Nathan is to join a worship service, please ask for more info.

WHAT DAYS ARE GOOD?:
Any day of the week works. However, we usually attempt to place church concerts on night they already meet, and house concerts on other days. This usually pans out to being at churches on sundays, and homes whenever….

FINANCIAL REQUEST:
There are several ways to approach covering the costs of a concert; from ticket sales, to donations, to simply providing an honorarium. We understand that every situation is different, and work very hard to be flexible so that it is affordable for even the smallest of groups. Note: Any recommendations that turn into extra concerts while in the area will certainly bring down expenses! Also, if Nathan is not traveling in the RV, he may bring one or two of his children, and he is happy to stay in a home or hotel, but a home can obviously reduce costs as well.

These are the two most common ways to approach financial needs:
1. An honorarium of approximately $400, plus a separate offering, plus expenses.
2. An honorarium of approximately $1000, plus expenses.

About Expenses: This ranges from just a tank of gas and a meal, to mileage and a couch for the night, to a flight and lodging. Once again, every situation is different, so please call or email with any questions.

“Do you have a or contract?” Nope. Once we send an email saying it’s confirmed, Nathan is looking forward to it! We only ask that you use our little Check List. It’s there to help make preparations easy and straight forward.

P.S. House concerts range from “a tip jar” to whatever you are able to give. But shooting for around $400 is a good ball park, and really helps keep things going. We usually try to arrange these when we are already in the area.

FULL BAND EVENT:
For a full band event, or a Christmas concert, please email to find out about more.

OTHER ARRANGEMENTS:
~ SOUND: We often carry our own sound system, and usually do not need extra sound support (the above expense fee usually covers this, unless a flight is involved). However, Nathan is happy to use the house system for morning worship so that an extra sound system is not a distraction. If the venue will be very large or outside, please inform us and we can either use the house system or advise you on how to rent a larger system for your event.

~ ACCOMMODATIONS: If Nathan is traveling on his own or with a couple of his children, they will need a home or hotel for up to three. If Nathan is traveling with his family, they will be in a motor-home and will only need a place to park and plug in for electricity. A church parking lot or camp ground located close by the venue would be great.

~ SET-UP:
1. Please have the stage area clear and electricity close.
2. A stool or chair
3. A 6 to 8ft table for CD display

PROMOTION:
Upon setting an event date we will encourage you to use this Check List. Our hope is that it will help make the process easy. We will try to be as helpful as possible so that it becomes a great time for all!
